Track History:
Gelsenkirchen Motorhome, also known as “Almaring”, was a motorsport racing track located in the Yukendorf district of Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Founded in 1969 by the Rheinländische Autorenn-Gemeinschaft (RAG) under the leadership of Anton Brenner, the track was built on the site of the former Alma coke plant. The track was about 0.75 km (0.47 miles) long and had five turns, accommodating up to 2,000 spectators. It mainly hosted events such as autocross, motorcycle racing, and circuit car racing.
The motorcycle track stopped operating after the 1984 racing season, primarily due to growing noise complaints from nearby residents. Frequent weekend races and associated loudspeakers have contributed to the unrest, leading to increased protests against noise pollution.
It’s a pity that this track had to be closed, it’s a very beautiful track, and most importantly, it’s a LOT of fun!
