This mod makes delivery times match what real owner-operators get. Some cargoes become a brutal trap, just like in real life, that no experienced driver would touch. It works both for trying something new and for regular play.

Your schedule becomes 10 hours of driving and 14 hours of rest. Delivery time is calculated as distance divided by 50 mph, and for every 500 miles of distance you get one additional 14-hour break.

On easy jobs you have 40 extra minutes; serious penalties begin after one hour of being late and destroy your profit. Medium jobs have a 30-minute window, and serious punishment starts after 30 minutes late. Urgent jobs have only a 15-minute window, and penalties begin already after 15 minutes late.

The game may give you one bonus sleep period if your fatigue runs out and you take a new job with a certain chance, but I recommend not risking it and sleeping before every job. Recommended speed is 70–75 mph whenever possible; if you play for fuel economy, even with this hard time mode you will eventually find windows to save fuel.

I recommend using this mod together with my realistic traffic behavior mod. It will remove problematic AI situations that wouldn’t happen in real life. The mod is compatible with all game versions, if any changes happen, the mod will be updated. I am always open to feedback and suggestions.
