ATS Dodge Truck Mod: L700 1.59 (Featured)
ATS Dodge Truck Mod: L700 1.59

Get ready for a fun and enjoyable ride. There is no other truck in all of ATS and ETS2 like this Dodge L700. With its short 89 inch wheelbase, it can make a U-turn in less than two lane widths. And as for parking a trailer? This truck can maneuver a trailer like its nobody’s business. If you hated parking trailers before, you might just begin to enjoy it. For those who avoid the tougher parking jobs, this truck will make life much easier.

The cab of this Dodge L700 was based on the Dodge A100 van and was produced by Chrysler Corporation from 1966 to 1971. This particular model more closely resembles the 1966 model.

The Dodge L700 is classified as a medium duty truck. For the best performance and handling, it is suggested to limit your loads to less than 30,000 pounds. However, it has been tested and proven to be able to pull heavier loads, just not as well as the bigger trucks. The heavier the load, the more careful you will need to be in the curves. Don’t let the trailer overpower you. This truck isn’t as big and heavy as the big Kenworths and Peterbilts. Drive it nicely until you get used to it. But, you might be surprised as it really does handle quite well for its size.

A NOTE ABOUT THE ENGINES:
This truck includes your choice of 3 different engines, a CAT 3116, Cummins 5.9L 6BT, and a Perkins Sabre. Each engine has been modified considerably from their stock configuration. Each engine will pull a load fairly equally but in their own way. Read on.

Perkins Sabre: This is a highly modified version of a popular Perkins marine engine. The Perkins has the most torque and horsepower, but gets it at a lower rpm than the other two engines. This engine likes to cruise at around 1500 rpms, so a rear axle ratio of 3.25 works well. If you do mostly World of Trucks jobs which limit you to 65 mph, then you might prefer a 3.55 ratio for more pulling power.

Cummins 5.9L 6BT: This engine is similar to the Cummins engines that were available in the early Dodge pickups and many motorhomes and other applications. It produces a little bit less torque than the Perkins, but does it at a slightly higher rpm which works well provided you use the right gearing in the rear axle. You can run a 3.25 ratio, but this engine prefers a 3.55 as it likes to cruise at 1700 rpms. For WOT jobs, you might even consider a 3.70.

CAT 3116: This engine makes the least amount of torque of the 3 engines, but it does it at a much higher rpm. This engine likes to spin and works well with a 3.70 and even higher rear axle ratio. Any lower gear ratio and the engine will feel sluggish compared to the other two engines. This engine will happily cruise at 1900-2100 rpms and can safely rev up to 2800 rpms.
