Description

The Berliet GBU 15 was a robust 6×6 heavy-duty tactical truck developed in the late 1950s (notably appearing around 1959). It was primarily designed for heavy recovery and tactical transport roles.
Role: Heavy recovery (“Dépannage lourd”) and logistics support.
Engine: Powered by the Berliet MK 640, a 6-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of approximately 15,000 cc, producing around 240 hp.
Mobility: It featured a 6×6 drivetrain with a 5-speed gearbox (including range switching for high and low gears). It was capable of wading through a meter of water without special preparation.

Performance:

Max Speed: ~75 km/h.
Empty Weight: ~14,500 kg to 15,200 kg.
Payload: Typically rated for 6,000 kg.
Range: Approximately 800 km, supported by a 400-liter fuel capacity.
Design: It utilized a standard forward-control cabin common to military heavy transports of the era and was known for its durability in rough off-road conditions.
