Something A Tad Different, Just For Fun!
This is a little experimental mod I wanted to try created that aims to replicate the pixelated censorship effect you see on bodycam footage. I did this from scratch by hand by using planes with backface culling and trying to layer them so your face doesn’t look like it’s being “trapped” by cubes.
This effect is “animated*”… with a slight asterisk! It’s not animated in the traditional sense of keyframes, but rather this makes use of Z-fighting, where I created several sets of two coupledplanes each that occupy the same exact coordinates and orientation, with me having flipped the UV map on one of each. I’ve attached two short videos for reference of how it appears in-game.
However, it isn’t perfect by any means, as trying to replicate something normally done in post processing via VFX with actual geometry is a challenge, and some camera angles may make the illusion appear as jagged; though, I still had some decent fun going for it anyhow!
If there’s a better way to pull this effect off more seamlessly using meshes, I’d be interested to know.
Within this mod are two variations of the censorship coverage: one meant for full facial censorship, and another for balaclavas/ski masks. I’ve included all four primary vanilla skin tones, which you can toggle by changing the prop’s texture.
To preserve your clothing/outfits, I’ve made this mod into an eyewear (“p_eyes”) component. The only downside to this, however, is that the effect can be “punched off” if the character is struck or ragdolled a certain way.
HOW TO INSTALL:
Installation depends on who/which ped you want to have this. By default, I intended this for MP Male and MP Female, though dragging this into any streamed ped’s “pedprops.rpf” archive should get it working. Just keep in mind you may have to swap out the textures or edit a YMT if the ped doesn’t have enough YTD entry slots.
For MP characters, it’s best to install this into MPClothes by HeySlickThatsMe , as its YMT is set up to be compatible with the four textures included.
To Install:
1. Download MPClothes
2. In OpenIV, with “Edit Mode” on, navigate to the following directory:
mods > update > x64 > dlcpacks > mpclothes > dlc.rpf > x64 > models > cdimages > mpclothes_male.rpf > mp_m_freemode_01_p_mp_m_clothes_01
3. Rename the included “p_eyes_000/001” YDD(s) and their respective textures to be the next-highest p_eyes component you have in this directory.
If you have no other “p_eyes_###” components in here, simply drag and drop them in from my mod.
If you have other “p_eyes_###” components in here, remember to count up from 000 without skipping any numbers. Skipping numbers will reset your trainer.
For example, if your highest number is “p_eyes_011”, you’ll rename the one from my mod to be “p_eyes_012” and the YTD to be “p_eyes_diff_012_a” (and _b, _c, and _d for skin tones).
You’re set. Remember to scroll from left-to-right in your trainer to access this/these, unless the prop is the last addition and is p_eyes_015. Skin tones can be changed via texture.
I may include this as a staple additional option for my peds in the future.
