Description
This mod supports all standard (vanilla) vehicles, as well as any mods that have been updated to work with the new character placement system. Mannequins replace standard characters: if a mannequin is placed in a vehicle seat, a regular character won’t appear there, and the Seating menu won’t affect that seat. However, you can still select that seat to switch the camera to it—the camera will be locked onto the dummy. Dummies have fixed weight and stiffness values that do not change, even if a player sits in the same seat. If you exit the vehicle, the dummy will remain in its place. All these features are not so much a deliberate design choice as a necessary measure dictated by the limitations of the current character placement system.
To place a dummy in a seat, open the parts selector menu for the desired vehicle, find the appropriate slot, and replace the standard “Seat Occupant” (character in the seat) with “Crash Test Dummy.” That’s all you need to do. If a modified vehicle does not have such a slot, it means it has not yet been updated to support this system. Please note: In many cars, when the dummy is placed in the back seat, its legs may appear to “pass through” the front seats—this cannot be fixed at this time.
You can customize the dummy in the corresponding menu sub-sections. There are 3 body types available: male mannequin, female mannequin, and stuntman. Each type has several appearance options, and for the stuntman, you can select clothing items individually. You can also add a hat and a mustache.
As with standard characters, the mannequin can be thrown from a vehicle upon a sufficiently strong impact. If you place the mannequin in the driver’s seat, it will perform a simple steering animation—nothing too complicated. The mod prioritizes performance over detail, so you can place multiple dummies in a vehicle at once without worrying about a critical drop in frame rate.
Another feature of the mod is the ability to make the dummy your character in walking mode. Its animation is tied to the vehicle controls—this is a necessary workaround due to the game’s limitations. If you press Ctrl+R, you can see the mannequin in first-person walking mode; technically, this is a bug, but it’s quite useful.
The last element is a separate mannequin object. This is a very old object carried over from a previous version of the mod, so its quality is inferior to that of the other elements. I hope you’ll like it anyway. I plan to refine it over time.
