The mod allows you to enter neighboring apartments in a residential rental without a loading screen: you can walk up to the door, knock, visit, and return home right within a single plot.

In a normal game of The Sims 4, only one plot is loaded at a time, but this mod bypasses the restriction for residential rentals: it saves the neighboring apartment’s data and downloads its furniture and characters on demand. Once installed, all you have to do is click on your neighbor’s door or anywhere inside their apartment, and two options will appear: a normal trip with a loading screen or a seamless visit without one. If there’s someone of school age or older at home, the apartment will load, an event will start, and one of the tenants will meet your character and let you inside.

Babies, babies in cribs, newborns in cradles, cats and dogs may appear during this visit. Characters who are at work or school will not appear until their shift is over. Horses, farm animals and small pets are not yet supported. Neighbors continue to go about their business, and your characters are considered guests, not residents.

Visits are managed as a separate event, and only one such visit can be active at a time. It lasts until you manually end it or until all adults and children in the apartment have left on business. During an active visit, you cannot enter construction mode, this is done as a security measure. Also, by default, neighbors are not free to enter your apartment, but you can allow this through your family’s front door.

The customization is mostly automatic. In order for a mod to recreate a neighbor’s apartment for a visit, it must first save its contents. This can happen automatically if the apartment has already been loaded, through normal travel with the loading screen, or through world management mode if you open the building in construction mode. The saves are stored next to the save file, so it is usually sufficient to prepare the apartment once for each save.

Of the known limitations: some modular furniture may not display perfectly, the system for responding to neighbors for inappropriate behavior works in a limited way so far, and features such as break-ins, eavesdropping, and landlord interactions are not yet supported or tested. The author also advises returning to live mode after changes to residential rentals and saving from there so that the mod’s data is updated correctly.

Conflicts

The mod is compatible with Better Apartment & Rental Behaviors by lunar_britney. It most likely conflicts with Dimmed Inactive Rentals and Labeled Rental Units by TwistedMexi, because it already darkens inactive apartments and labeled rental units by itself. The mod does not overwrite game files directly.
